This episode of So Sorry For Your Loss welcomes Jamie-Lee Josselyn, a creative writing instructor at the University of Pennsylvania. Because of her expertise in writing and, unfortunately, her experience with grief, I hoped she could share helpful guidance to translating your feelings into the written word. Our conversation touched on way more than just writing and took an inside look at the stigma of suicide, the intricacies of grieving while still a youth, and even generational grief. As always, there was some great laughter along the way.

My first introduction to Jamie-Lee is a serendipitous story. I sat overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Santa Barbara, California with my newly-minted “husband” in August of 2019. We discussed our dreams and goals for our lifetime. Mine, to continue working on So Sorry For Your Loss and eventually be able to travel to speaking engagements where I could tell my story and inspire and help others who are grieving.

The very next day, I received an email from Jamie-Lee. She had seen my story slam about my father’s connection with the Eagles and asked if she could share the clip in her Sports Narrative class at Penn, and furthermore, she invited me to speak at the university’s Kelly Writer House about my grief for a live event taping of her own podcast, Dead Parents Society.

My dreams were coming true! You can also listen to that episode here.
